Tourist attraction Tipon Ruins. Tipon is located very close to the town of Oropesa in the province of Quispicanchis, east of the imperial city of Cusco. The archaeological complex of Tipon is known for its terraces and an intact irrigation ditch. The upper part of the complex is crossed by the Inca Trail along with an irrigation canal. The park covers approximately 2,200 hectares where you can appreciate magnificent Inca irrigation architecture and was likely used as a laboratory for agricultural products due to the diverse microclimates found in this Inca complex.

How to get there from Tipon to Cusco

Departing from Cusco: 38 min (25.5 km) by road. Cusco – Paucartambo. Take a van marked: Saylla – Tipon on the Avenida de la Cultura. The fare is approximately 2 soles and the journey takes less than an hour. Once you arrive at the town of Tipon, you can take a taxi, which usually costs 10 soles, to go up to the ruins. S

Origin of Tipon

The original Quechua name of the park is unknown. You can see various groups of royal chambers that, according to Víctor Angles, were built by the Inca Wiraqocha as a refuge for his father Yawar Wakaq, upon his return from the war against the Chancas.

Today, it remains a mystery, but it is most likely that the origin of the “sacred” waters that flow through the canals and end in Tipón’s fountains and sewers comes from the peaks of Pachatusan or from underground currents within the mountain.
